Wiederholt GmbH & Co. KG, part of US based PTCAlliance Group, was founded in 1919. The company is now positioned as one of the worlds leaders in the manufacture of lightweight precision steel tubing. Wiederholt, through this capability, is a key supplier to the Auto industry with involvement in many different product development initiatives covering areas such as emission control, steering systems, suspension components and engine development. With sales of around €100 million it is a key supplier to many of the “big name” companies within the Auto industry. Wiederholt operates from two manufacturing sites, both in close proximity to the Airport in Dortmund. One factory manufactures lightweight precision steel tubing to the DIN 2394 and DIN 2393 standards. However, a large proportion of production is in the area of “Super Smooth Internal Diameter” tubing for use some rather “special” applications. In its components factory this highly specialized product is used to manufacture components that are used in vehicles that include the new S Klasse Mercedes. By focusing on its core competence of “doing amazing things with lightweight steel tubing”, Wiederholt finds itself at the leading edge of product development initiatives such as the “Hollow Cam”; a highly engineered camshaft manufactured from lightweight structural tubing. Wiederholt, through its ability to re-engineer its basic raw material – steel – and its ability to manufacture to unmatched surface tolerances and engineering properties is ensured a place at the centre of the Automotive Industry for some time to come.
