A Vallourec Star subsidiary is in the final stages of deciding if it will invest $81.5 million for the construction of a steel-pipe threading facility at the former Genmak Steel building and an additional 67,500 square feet nearby in the city’s Ohio Works Business Park.

Vallourec’s answer on using the Youngstown property for its VAM USA LLC subsidiary is expected in less than 90 days, said city Finance Director David Bozanich.

The facility would employ 84 full-time workers by early next year, according to VAM’s 10-year, 75-percent real- property tax abatement application. It listed an estimated annual payroll of $2.9 million on one part of the application and $3.7 million ...

Kao Hsing Chang Iron & Steel Corporation one of the major carbon steel welded pipe makers in Taiwan said that its pipe shipping volumes increased a lot in last December, driven by rising demand at end of year. The situation helped the company’s December combined sales revenue to rise to TWD 140 million, growing by 30.8% MoM and soaring by 10.27% YoY. The manager of Kao Hsing Chang said the company has currently stopped its cold rolled (CR) mill's operation and devoted on its welded pipe sales. Steelmaker Gives Layoff Notices Evraz...

Evraz Inc. North America issued layoff notices to more than 400 employees, or roughly 80 per cent of Evraz Regina's tubular division staff, a spokeswoman for the Chicago-based steelmaker confirmed Thursday.

The layoffs were to take effect Jan. 20.

However, the spokeswoman said that the company is hoping to avoid making any layoffs and issued the layoff notices as a precaution.

"Due to recent rail-related logistics challenges, we may need to temporarily suspend production at the spiral mill while we work to move out the abundance of pipe orders on the ground,'' Melodie Ruse, senior communications manager for Evraz, told the Leader-Post on Thursday.

Following a preliminary investigation, Son Ha International Corporation and Mejonson Industrial Viet Nam Co will face a preliminary anti-dumping duty of 17.72 per cent, while the other Vietnamese companies involved will face an anti-dumping duty of 53.91 per cent.

The anti-dumping duty imposed on Malaysian companies was much higher – more than 167 per cent – while the punitive duty on Thai companies ranged between seven and 10 per cent.

The companies will also be asked to pay cash deposits based on the preliminary rates calculated in the investigations.

DoC is scheduled to announce its final decision on May 17.

Pioneer Pipe Plans New Facility

A Marietta company is planning a fabrication site at the Wood County Airport Industrial Park.  The Wood County Airport Authority has met with Dave Archer, owner and chairman, and Matthew Hilverding, chief operating and financial officer, of Pioneer Pipe, who said plans are to lease the lot from current lease holder Joe Martin.

"Pioneer Pipe will use the location for the fabrication of pipe and steel as well as some trailer assembly," Hilverding said. "Similar to what ICI did while they were in the (industrial) park."
