VAM USA has announced it will open a finishing plant in Youngstown, Ohio. The $57 million facility will bring 100 jobs to a region still reeling from steel mill job losses. It will operate near a $650 million pipe mill V&M Star is constructing. It is reported that Bristol Metals, one of the major stainless steel pipe manufacturers in the US, has planned to raise its base prices of stainless steel pipes by 14% in response to current increases in stainless steel flat products in the US market.The new price policy will become effective from December 1st and will be carried out through a reduction of the price discount.It is known that the major stainless steel mills such as North American Stainless, AK Steel and Allegheny Technologies have all announced in last week to raise the stainless steel prices from January 2012.

The Nigeria Gas and Steel Limited (NGSL) has invested $5 million (N750 million) into the production of  locally-produced large diameter steel pipes in Nigeria.

NSGL Managing Director, Mr Hasib Moukarim, said the modern fashion of construction designs in the world incorporates the use of steel pipes in construction and building of warehouses, airport, conference halls, pedestrian bridges, among others.

Moukarim said the company pride herself with the provision of the necessary raw materials as round and square pipes ranging from 19mm to 250mm in diameter and thickness up to 10mm, needs for the design and construction of beautiful edifices.

Shanxi Province based Chinese steel producer Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co has announced that its subsidiary in Chengdu, Sichuan Province has signed a contract with China National Petroleum Corporation to supply 300 tonnes of stainless steel pipe for the Russia China gas pipeline project.

This marks the first time Taiyuan Steel's stainless steel pipe will enter the international market.In 2011, Taiyuan Steel's Chengdu based subsidiary successfully developed 177.8 mm × 4.36 mm nickel alloy stainless oil country tubular goods with weight of 0.5 tonnes, the largest stainless steel product produced in China.

Steel trading firm Metal One Corp. and Brazilian steelmaker Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA, or Usiminas, plan to expand steel pipe manufacturing capacity in Brazil by 40%.

By June 2012, capacity will be increased at a plant in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul and at another in the eastern state of Sao Paulo, resulting in a combined capacity of 14,000 tons a month.  The expansion will cost 30 million reais, or around 1.26 billion yen.  The factories are operated by steel processor Solucoes em Aco Usiminas SA, also known as Solutions Usiminas, in which Metal One has a 20% interest and Usiminas holds a 68.9% stake.
